Pilot Justus 95

The Pilot Justus 95 proves that true fountain pen innovation can be found in the nib itself. Its unique adjustment mechanism lets the writer move between a firm, precise response and a softer, more expressive writing feel.

ABOUT THE PEN:

Innovation in fountain pens is often associated with filling systems or exotic materials. The Pilot Justus 95 proves that true innovation can also be found in the nib itself.

Originally introduced to celebrate Pilot’s 95th anniversary, the Justus 95 is unlike almost any other modern fountain pen. Its defining feature is a unique adjustment mechanism that allows the writer to change the firmness of the 14-karat gold nib with a simple twist of the ring on the grip section. Moving from H (Hard) to S (Soft) changes how the nib responds to pressure, effectively transforming the pen from a precise everyday writer into a softer, more expressive instrument.

My version features the elegant black resin body with subtle vertical engraving and gold trim. While its appearance is understated and timeless, the engineering hidden beneath the surface makes it one of the most technically fascinating fountain pens Pilot has ever produced. Rather than chasing flexibility alone, the Justus 95 allows you to fine-tune the writing experience to match your handwriting, ink, paper, or even your mood.

The adjustable nib is not designed to be a vintage-style flex nib. Instead, it offers controlled elasticity and a remarkably refined writing feel, giving you the freedom to choose between crisp precision and a softer, more dynamic line. It is essentially two writing personalities housed within a single fountain pen.

The Pilot Justus 95 perfectly represents what makes Japanese pen engineering so remarkable. Instead of adding unnecessary complexity, it solves a real problem with elegant mechanical precision, creating a writing instrument that remains as unique today as it was when it was first introduced.
