The Pilot Custom 845 Urushi in Vermilion Red represents one of the purest expressions of Japanese craftsmanship within Pilot’s lineup. Positioned just below the flagship Custom Urushi, it combines traditional materials with modern reliability, resulting in a pen that feels both refined and deeply authentic.

At its core is an ebonite body, a material valued for its warmth and organic feel in the hand. This base is coated with multiple layers of natural Urushi lacquer—harvested from the sap of the lacquer tree and applied through a demanding, highly controlled process. Each layer must cure under specific humidity conditions before being polished and refined, creating a deep, almost living surface that evolves over time.  The Vermilion Red finish, in particular, stands out as one of the most iconic expressions of Urushi, offering a vibrant yet elegant presence that feels rooted in Japanese tradition.

The writing experience is defined by Pilot’s #15 18k gold nib.
