Some Montblanc inks feature a subtle, distinctive scent that is neither aggressive nor distracting. It is a delicate detail you often notice only when you slow down and give your full attention to the act of writing.

This scent:

• does not feel chemical

That said, extra care is needed with scented inks when it comes to paper choice. My experience with almost all scented inks is that they tend to feather more on paper and behave quite differently compared to standard Montblanc inks.

Which Montblanc inks require extra caution

When using Montblanc inks, special attention should be paid to the Elixir collection. These scented inks are very thin and wet, which means they tend to spread more on paper and can feather significantly, especially on less absorbent or lower-quality paper. On the opposite end of the spectrum are calligraphy inks, which are much thicker and dry very quickly. While they can produce striking results, they are not suitable for regular fountain pen use and may stain, clog, or even damage the pen if used improperly. Choosing the right Montblanc ink therefore always depends on its intended purpose and the pen you plan to use it with.
